Education

The Celtic Chow Chow Club works with and supports the Breed Council with various educational events. In 2026 we are assisting with a Breed Appreciation Day (BAD).

A BAD assists people to learn more about our breed- to better appreciate the breed. This is typically aimed at judges as it’s part of the Judges Education Program (JEP). Judges need to attend a BAD and then pass a subsequent Multiple Choice Exam (MCE). A MCE must be on the same day as the BAD.

With the JEP there are four main levels for judging our breed. JEP 1 judges can judge 3 classes. JEP 2 and 3 judges can judge open shows/ shows without CCs. JEP 4 judges can award CCs. There are various requirements for each judging level. JEP 1 judges need a minimum time in the breed, some KC assessments. To progress to JEP 2, judges have to pass their MCE. For JEP 3 judges need to have judged 35 dogs, be mentored and observed judging. JEP 4 judges have to pass a Breed Specific Assessment. To find out more please visit here the RKC website will have more information. You can also email our Breed Education Coordinator (BEC) – chowbreededucation@gmail.com

Our event in 01/03/2026 has a BAD, followed by the MCE. After the MCE we have a greater in-depth look at how to go over a Chow (judging). After lunch there’s time for group mentoring furthering the knowledge gained for judges.

Along with judge education the breed hold seminars and work with the International Chow Chow Congress ICCC. Seminars have had various topics including health, ownership, and breeding. The ICCC is invested in all aspects of our breed. The ICCC share a passion of the breed through social and educational events. These events take place both online and in person. ICCC is held up by three core subjects areas:

  • Health of our breed;
  • Owning our breed;
  • Showing our breed.

Within Health, the ICCC want to ensure the next generation of Chows are even healthier than the current. They do this through discussion and sharing ideas on-

  • health testing
  • new abnormalities
  • historic trends
  • planning for the future of our breed

Owning Chows, the ICCC want to help owners to gain insight into-

  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Lifestyle in general
  • Breeding

Showing the breed is primarily concerned with the breed standard, and a look to judging.
