Judge for Our Champ show

Linda Squires (Kyong)

Showing/Breeding History

I purchased my first chow a black bitch born in 1975 from Maureen Foster (Kimsu) but unfortunately she proved not to breed and in 1977 I purchased a red bitch from Arthur Stanier, she was Thursfield Jessamine who went on to become the breed record holder for the number of champion progeny. From her first litter I kept Ch Kyong Cider Rosie and from other litters I retained Ch’s Karizma (Top Bitch 1984 & 1985), Karlotta, Kassidy and Kolby. She also produced other CC & Res CC winners and was truly a prolific bitch who could never be replaced. Other winners at Kyong have been Ch Byhorn Karo who was Top Dog in 1998, Ch Kyushu Klementine Top Puppy in 1998 followed by Top Dog in 2001 after being runner up in the breed for the previous two years. Other dogs of note have been Ch Kyong Kockney Rebel (Top Sire 1998), Kyong Katz Whiskers (2 CCs & 5 Res CCs) Kyong Kaprice (2 CCs & 8 Res CCs), Kyong Kaminickers (1 Res CC), Kyong Kap-TVation (Top Puppy 1989) along with Shergay Jalindee at Kyong (1 CC & 4 Res CCs plus Top Puppy 2004). Another young male who gained his title in 2009 was Ch Kyong Kal-Q-Lator. In 2011 along came brother & sister Kwaitang Kruella DeVil at Kyong (1 Res CC) and the prolific winner Ch Kwaitang Kristian at Kyong who amassed over 30 CCs and BOB along with numerous club BIS’s plus group placings including RBIS at BUBA. Kris was Top Puppy 2012 and Top Dog 2013,2014,2015 & 2016 along with Top Stud 2016 & 2017 and lives on in his champion sons. During this time I imported a dog from Belarus, Delight Djalo at Kyong, who also became a champion.

Judging History

I judged my first show in 1981 and my first club show for the Scottish Chow Chow Club. I first awarded CCs in 1989 at Paignton and was invited to judge the breed at Crufts in 2011 which I consider a great honour. I have also judged in Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Specialty for the Italian Chow Chow Club

I have previously been a committee member for the Northern Counties and the North Eastern Chow Chow Clubs and been a representative on the Chow Chow Breed Council. Currently I am the Chairperson of the Northern Counties Chow Chow Club.

Judge for Our Champ show

Gemma Pike (Eivisah)

My sincerest thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at the Celtic Chow Chow Club inaugural show.

I began showing in 2013 with pugs as my primary breed. I’ve made up four pug champions, one home bred. I won BOB at Crufts 2025, have won BPIS at general championship shows (with a pug, a chow and corgi) and have won multiple puppy and veteran groups. I awarded CC’s in pugs for the first time at Bath in 2024.

My first chow chow, Jolene, came from my good friend and mentor Gerry McCallum (Burlesk). She was lightly shown as a youngster but truthfully prefers to be a sofa princess – although she did win BPIS at SKC in 2019. She has the loveliest nature and is best friends with Stella pug who was born just a few months before Jolene. Nowadays I have the pleasure of borrowing Gerry’s Gogo to show when we all have the inevitable ring clashes at shows.

As a “toy” person, I have to admit that the utility group is my favourite and have added a miniature schnauzer to my brood so I can continue to show on utility day.

I’m very much looking forward to the appointment and having the pleasure of going over your lovely chow chows.

Both shows have different classes to enter and different prizes on offer. We start our day with the open show (show opening 0830), judging starting 0930. The open show has 22 classes- Baby Puppy; Minor Puppy; Puppy; Junior; Novice; Post Graduate; Limit; Open; Special Open AOC; Special Open Smooth; Veteran.

The Champ show judging will follow the open show conclusion and has the following 16 classes- Minor Puppy; Puppy; Puppy; Junior; Yearling ; Post Graduate; Limit; Open; Veteran.

For the open show theres a special members only entry fee of £25 which gives unlimited entry of chows and classes while also entitling you to a free catalogue. The champ show has a similar deal for members being £40 again giving unlimited entry of chows and classes while also entitling you to a free catalogue. Lunch is free on the day as are drinks.
